The Holy Ring

In the San Lorenzo Cathedral, in the historic center of Perugia, the Chapel of the Holy ring that keeps that tradition indicates as the wedding of Madonna, revered relic in the custody of the Canons of the Society of St. Joseph. The relic is kept in a safe to eight meters high above the altar, well protected by a series of metal grates and doors. You need to open as many as 14 keys held by the Archbishop, by the canons of the cathedral and other civic authorities. The “Holy Ring”, beyond the popular devotion, is a symbol of holiness, stability, fecundity of Christian marriage, put under the protection of the Holy Family. The strong bond of Perugia the relic is renewed during the centuries-old festival of the Holy Ring (29 July) with the exposition of the relic.
